Wylie ISD

Welcome.  I am excited about this school year.  I have been with the Wylie School District since 1997.  I have taught Kindergarten, First Grade, and First Grade Title One Reading.  Currently I am working with Second Grade Title One Reading and Dyslexia at the Wylie West Elementary Campus.   I began working with Second Grade Title One Reading in 2007 and with Dyslexia students in 2010.

Helping students gain understanding and use of reading skills to become fluent, independent readers is such a rewarding endeavor daily.  In the Second Grade Title One Reading Department we read  and provide students with the skills to solve independently.  We also practice spelling, writing, and letter formation.  Monday - Thursday a book is sent home for Familiar Reading practice.  Continued practice with familiar text helps with fluency rate.  Fluency rate is the ease and speed at which text is read.

In our Second Grade Title One Reading Department we also use the i-Ready Computer Program which is an individualized program which allows students to work independently on their personalized instruction plan.

Helping Dyslexic students with their reading skills is highly rewarding as well.  The Reading by Design Program is a systematic and multi-sensory approach aligned with research-based practices.  Orton and Gillingham research is incorporated in this program.  This comprehensive program addresses the following components:  phonological awareness, sound-symbol association, six syllable types, written spelling patterns, morphology, syntax, reading fluency, and comprehension.
